Banner Ads

A banner ad is a form of advertising used on the internet. This style of online advertising involves embedding an advertisement into web page of common interest. It is intended to draw traffic to the advertisers website from the advertising website. The banner ad is a designed image to attract attention from the internet surfer viewing a likely page of interest. The most common banner size you see at the top of a web page is 480 x 60 pixels. These images are usually placed on web pages that have substantial traffic of similar but un-conflicting interest.

When the high traffic advertising site gets viewed by a person browsing the internet the banner gets what is referred to as an impression. This means the viewer may have noticed the banner. It also means the viewer may have just ignored the banner and went on with his web search. Banners can be distracting and an experienced internet viewer is likely to simply ignore

banners. Some people actually set their computer to ignore banners. Banners and text links are advertisements that can often distract a viewer from their current search agenda. They don't call it the web for nothing.

When the advertiser searches his log files he can see how many times his visitors clicked all the links on their page. Often advertisers charge about 5 - 10 cents per click. This helps the advertiser make a little extra revenue and sends a little extra traffic to the advertisor.

Web banners operate in much the same manor as classic advertisements. They advise potential consumers of products and services. At the same time banner ads coax the potential consumer by using alluring them with catch words and phrases. Obviously some banner ads generate more traffic than others.

Ad/website relevancy, effectiveness, creativity and powerful context all play a major role in web banner campaign success. Trial and error almost always improve effectiveness also.

Banner ad advertisement is not the most beneficial form of web or site advertisement. It never hurts to try though. Even if a banner ad only gets 5 clicks from 100 impressions it's 5 more visitors than you would have had without the banner campaign.

Another advantage is you have from setting up banner ads pointing toward your site is a back link. back links help improve your Google ranking. The more prominent the site linking to your site the more value Google gives to your ranking. Google also likes to see many links pointing to your site. So there are definite advantages to setting up banner ad campaigns.

If you decide to use this method of advertising your web site check into the exchange advertisers background and scour the internet for references. There are sites that have bots that click their banners so they can charge you for worthless traffic.
